Carol Kessler – Voice/Piano

Following a performance of German Lieder, Sindelfinger Zeitung wrote about Carol Ann Kessler that, “Her intonation is immaculate. Pronunciation and understanding of the text in German Lieder outstanding.”

Ms. Kessler, soprano, brings her passion and experience to the concert stage.

From an early age, she intuitively knew she would be a classical singer, following the musical paths of her parents and grandparents. She began formal piano instruction at the age of 4, discovering shortly thereafter she had perfect pitch, and learned early on the beauty of musical expression.

She is most passionate about singing the repertoire of Bach, Händel, and indeed the genre of Baroque Music, and excels in singing the Lieder Repertoire of Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Wolf, Brahms, Mozart, and other composers dedicated to the Art Song tradition.

Having spent time living in Germany for a number of years, she is fluent in the language, allowing for the subtleties of German text to be understood and communicated effectively.

An Indiana University Music School graduate, she was a member of the Roger Wagner Chorale, and toured as a featured soloist on two of his tours to Japan and Korea. She was the soprano soloist for the Sacramento Area Bach Festival concerts of Bach’s Messe in h-moll and Johannes-passion, conducted by Peter Aston, of England.

Subsequently, Dr. Aston invited her to England to be his soprano soloist in two additional concerts, Mozart’s Messe in c-moll and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. Also in England, she sang under the baton of Peter Seymour in Honneger’s King David.

While living in Germany, she was a frequent soloist for the Stuttgarter Chor, singing such works as Händel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria, and also performed in the more intimate setting of the Solo Recital. Her wide repertoire includes Brahms’ Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Poulenc’s Gloria, Händel’s newly discovered Gloria for solo soprano, and several of Bach’s Kantaten.

In opera, the roles she has performed include Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Rosalinda in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Susannah in Floyd’s Susannah, First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Drusilla in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and Genevieve in Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Additional solo engagements include singing with Ensemble Stuttgart, Chor der Johannes Kirche, Sonora Bach Festival, Philadelphia Pro Musica, Chorale Delaware, American Youth Symphony, Davis Chorale, and Napa Valley Chorale. She also maintains an active schedule performing solo recitals in the United States and Europe.

Please visit Ms. Kessler’s Web site, www.CarolKessler.com for a full listing of engagements and repertoire.

Ms. Kessler also maintains a private piano and voice studio, where she encourages the development of budding musicians. While she loves to sing, she also loves to swim – just not at the same time.
